<div itemprop="description">After a two-year struggle with progressive dementia, poor Rita succumbed at Laurier Manor on January 30, 2017. She arrived in Montreal with beloved husband Bill on January 9, 1954, from Edinburgh, Scotland to join her family already in Canada. Rita and Bill resided and became fully integrated in Montreal and were blessed with two children, Ian William and Alison Marguarita. They moved to Ottawa in 1983 when Bill accepted a position with a Federal Government Agency until his retirement in 1993. Rita devoted most of her free time to charitable work and active voluntary work, principally at the Rehabilitation Centre Kiosk in the Ottawa General Hospital. She will be missed by her children and by her siblings Dorothy (Jacques) of PEI, and Kathy (Norman) and Thomas of Montreal. Predeceased by parents Barbara and Thomas Kane, brother John and sisters Barbara, Margaret, Ethel, Rose, and Teresa. <br>A Memorial Service will be held at Riverside United Church, 3191 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, K1V 8N8 on Friday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm. In memoriam donations to the Ottawa Humane Society, in recognition of Rita’s love for, and protection of, domestic animals appreciated.</div>
