She leaves behind children Gary, Susan, Brian and Dan, as well as 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may pay respects at the
Kelly Funeral Home, Walkley Chapel
1255 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 6P9
Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service Tuesday, October 21st, to Holy Cross Church, 685 Walkley Rd, for Mass of Christian funeral at 11 a.m., with reception to follow.

Born in Haileybury, ON, just days after WWI began, Mona spent her childhood on the farm near Perth that her grandfather Owen built after arriving from County Armagh, Ireland. Life was not easy on the farm in the late 1920s, and at the tender age of 15, she moved to Montreal to live with her aunt and work as a secretary in an insurance firm – arriving only weeks before the crash of 1929.

Mona spent nearly 20 enjoyable years in Montreal before moving to Ottawa. It was here she was introduced to Ed by mutual friends and the two were married in 1950. Son Gary was born a year later, shortly before Ed accepted a posting in Washington, DC with the Canadian government. Three more children were born while in DC. In 1959, they moved back to Ottawa and Mona settled in to an active life revolving around extended family, church, square dancing and volunteer work. Mona lived a long, full life, always guided by her deep Catholic faith and marked by her devotion to and love of family, her compassion for those less fortunate, her gratitude for all life had given her, and a gracious and humble way with everyone she met. A gentle soul who first thoughts were always for others, she had a sharp mind, quiet humour, and unbelievable memory right up to her last days.

Mom, you are truly an inspiration. You will be greatly missed.
