Richard Whalen
June 22, 1934 - February 20, 2017
WHALEN, Richard Paul (Dick), P. Eng
Peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017, in his 83rd year. Loving husband of Margaret (nee Estey) after 59 years of marriage. Loving father of Susan (Guy Chapman), Janet (Randy Diotte), Edward (Viera) and Carol. Proud grandfather of Andrew (Ngoc) and Brendan (Serge) Chapman, Georgia and Markie Diotte, Melanie and Connor Whalen, Sarah and Matthew Milchak. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Helen Whalen, and his brother Bob. Survived by his sister Mary Massicotte of Sault Ste. Marie.
Following his graduation from UNB in Civil Engineering, Richard had a successful career in Montreal, Halifax, Toronto and Ottawa. As a devout Catholic Richard volunteered a great deal of his time to Holy Cross Parish. He was a dedicated family man; the cottage at Sharbot Lake will be fondly remembered as a place where he enjoyed spending time with loved ones. Thank you to the staff at Carlingview Manor, especially those on the fourth floor, in helping Richard courageously fight Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Friends may pay respects at Holy Cross Parish, 685 Walkley Road on Monday, February 27th from 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kelly Funeral Home, Walkley Chapel (613-731-1255).
In Memoriam donations to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca) or the charity of your choice.
