Victor Delbert Edwards
Warrant Officer (Ret’d) RCAF

We are profoundly saddened to announce the death of Vic.

He was born to Harry and Jessie (Carley) in Brockville, Ontario, March 11, 1927. He left us March 23, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Helen (Goddard), brother Harry, and granddaughter Tanya (Heney). He is survived by his brother Fred (Shirley), his most beloved wife Deanna (Heney), loving son Gregory (Lois), step-children Scott Heney (Elaine), Sharon Heney-Racine (Ron), Liz Heney Maguire, Jennifer Heney St. Pierre (Jason) and Geoffrey Heney (Kate), and his adored grandchildren Carina (Darren), Jessica, Monica, Ryan, Matthew, Rory, Shanna, Ava, Ella, Megan and Ben. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

When Vic, Harry and Fred were young lads, their father formed them into the Island City Trio. They performed around the Brockville area and ventured as far as New York City to entertain with their barbershop-style songs. They even entertained the prisoners in the Attica prison – which was a novel experience.

Vic enlisted in the Canadian army in May 1945, did his basic training, but the war ended before he saw active duty. He was released from the army at that time. He joined the RCAF in 1948 and served in various postings for 25 years before retiring. He became a representative for Sunys Gas Co., then managing one of their gas bars in Ottawa. After retiring from that in the late 80’s he joined the Commissionaires. He finally decided to really retire in the early 90’s and to enjoy time doing a little traveling and spending more time at the cottage and watching the grandchildren’s arrivals, welcoming each one with joy and love.

Vic had many interests. Among them were a great love of reading (especially Winston Churchill and mysteries), music, hockey and most favourite of all, baseball. He loved his St. Louis Cardinals and the Expos. He coached little league baseball. The cottage on Lake Timiskaming was a favourite spot. Family was all-important.

Vic developed kidney disease and was on peritoneal dialysis for 4 years. His health steadily deteriorated and he finally died at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was surrounded by a loving family and we will have a great void in our lives.
Thank you to the wonderful, caring staff at St. Vincent’s, and to the peritoneal clinic at the Riverside Hospital. You all were so caring and compassionate with Vic. Thanks to CCAC staff who did homecare for Vic.

Cremation will be followed by a great celebration of his life at the Kelly Funeral Home, Walkley Chapel (1255 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 6P9) beginning with visitation Tuesday, March 29th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and the final farewell on Wednesday, March 30 at 11 o’clock.

Thanks be to God, for the life of Victor Edwards and the many happy memories we will keep within us.

If you wish, donations to Bruyère Foundation (St. Vincent’s Hospital) or to (The Ottawa Hospital Foundation (Riverside Dialysis Unit) would be most appreciated.
